Behind the Scenes

I just finished filming a segment with Theo Dilworth (Allout productions) last week down here in east San Diego. My friend/ teammate JD Swanguen came along to practice filming with his new camera and sharpen his editing skills for the upcoming race season. The end result has been posted on vitalmtb.com

The Video!!!

This was day one of three, filmed on a trail I grew up riding. It's fast, loose and covered in small rocks which made for some cool shots. The day ended with a slam that tore up my fresh MSR Jersey (that you'll see was my biggest disappointment) but no injuries or damage to my bike was sustained. We filmed for two more days following this on a line I have been working on for months.

We're planning on doing a second web edit with excerpt clips from days two and three.

Thanks for investing your support in me. I've been having the time of my life on two wheels lately and am excited for the race season to come.

Talk soon, Sean.

Aaron Place 5th at Ray's Odd Couple Contest

Rays MTB Park in Cleveland, Ohio is the first of its kind and its thriving!  Every time I show up we are welcomed by Ray and his crew as old friends.  Its cold in that big old factory turned bikers paradise but you will alway feel welcome no matter what your bike looks like.

The "Odd Couple" is one of my favorite comps of the year.  Its where a filmer, a mtb guy and BMX guy all team up to make the best Rays video.  Last year was the first go at it and there were six teams, this year there were 12 teams and the level of videos were going up because unlike last year there were track dollies, Jib cameras, slow mo cameras, HD helmet cam, you name it. The production level was going to be set much higher.

I was teamed up with Justin Simpson, a BMX/ local with a real heavy bag of tricks.  We decided to film an intro of us coming into Rays and then right to the riding.  Simpson fired out a crazy "splat" gap in the jump room, tech bar spins and a wall ride to flair for the ender.  Unbelievable!  I tried to keep from getting barred in the nastieness.  I was stoked on some tech lines and a big 360 wall slap over on of the biggest jumps in the place.

The teams had three days to shoot and edit a 3 minute piece and by saturday night we were ready to kick back and watch these videos.  Hundreds of riders stopped riding and came to rest in the rhythm room.  All the films were pretty sick and when the lights came back on my team was awarded 5th place.  I wish I did a little bit better but Ill take it.

Check out the video and hopefully Ill see you at Rays MTB in Ohio.  Thanks Ray, AC
